Sean Banks is the Director of Ombuds Services and Corporate Ombuds for the Shell Oil Company, and has been an Organizational Ombuds practitioner for 19 years. Prior to Shell he served as Ombuds Services Director and Campus Ombudsperson at UCLA and California Polytechnic State University. Sean has extensive experience in mediation and facilitation, counseling and coaching, developing and implementing organizational diversity and inclusiveness enhancing programs and services, and analyzing and interpreting governmental and organizational policies, procedures and regulations. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Association(IOA), and a frequent instructor for a variety of IOA courses and workshops.
Sean was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and is a product of the Los Angeles public school system. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and M.Ed. in Counseling and Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego.
Sean's keynote address, "A Matter of Perspective: The Potential of Conflict Resolution in the INCLUSION (R)EVOLUTION," focuses on exploring what conflict resolution theory and techniques could offer to help address the issues of inclusion that are at the heart of current social justice movements in the USA.
